Job Description
As a key strategic member of the 54gene team, the Director of Business Development combines sound scientific knowledge with expert business acumen to support corporate growth and development and creation of long-term value for the 54 gene company.
S/he supports top management by identifying and providing analysis for evaluating new business opportunities including expansion of sales channels for diagnostics, licensing, and collaborations, which may include insurers, banks, pharmacies, research/universities, small start-up companies, and large pharma
The Director of Business Development, sources and evaluates partnership opportunities, coordinates cross-functional evaluation and diligence teams, and negotiates partnership agreements
The Director of Business Development will play a key role in establishing the company as a leader in diagnostics in Africa through the execution of deals that further the company’s strategic goals and vision.
Essential Functions
Business Development Strategy:
Develop and lead business development strategy efforts and searching priorities in alignment with 54gene’s goals for the diagnostics business, to support long-term growth
Coordinate stakeholders across the company and externally to understand and support key business development needs, identifying gaps in current capabilities and strengths
Drive the identification of high impact external scientific innovation in the diagnostics business.
Actively source opportunities via internal and external networking, attending scientific sessions, monitoring of pipelines, news, and other sources such as KOLs and industry leaders
Lead efforts to business development opportunities in support of the diagnostics business, including licenses, partnerships and collaborations, support long-range planning with business case analyses
Facilitate scientific evaluations by leading or supporting cross-functional and cross-divisional teams that include representation from multiple functional areas
Manage technical due diligence to ensure a detailed understanding of the potential and the risks of each opportunity and define the business parameters around potential deals
Provide recommendations and guidance to senior leadership, and ensure robust and efficient decision-making processes; prepare reports and updates
Work closely with other Business Development functions to ensure appropriate deal structures and valuations are achieved
Build consensus for deal rationale among stakeholders and senior leaders.
Corporate Partnerships:
Reach out externally and internally to share 54gene’s Business Development vision for Diagnostics
Communicate the company’s Diagnostics services to potential clients and collaborators; act as marketing arm to explain 54gene to different markets
Support CEO in relationship management and deals with KOL and important clients
Cultivate and engage new corporate partnerships, in support of growing the Diagnostics Business.
Lead structuring, negotiating and closing of agreements and licenses.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Strong understanding of diagnostics and science, including molecular diagnostics and global business of molecular diagnostics
Proven track record of negotiating and closing business agreements
Strong presentation skills, proven ability to communicate with diverse audiences, internally and externally
Ability to interface effectively with all-levels of staff across differing functional expertise within the organization, including Commercial, Legal, Medical/Science, and Finance

Experience:
5-8+ years of diagnostics, biotechnology, or pharmaceutical industry experience,
3-5+ years of experience in business development and licensing
Experience with identifying commercial opportunities in diagnostics, partnerships and deal-making with large companies
Experience in market research, preferred

As an integral part of the Sales Team, the Account Manager for provider accounts strategically drives 54gene’s diagnostics business growth by developing and maintaining relationships with major clients in the health care industry including; Hospitals, Health Insurance providers, Doctors, Medical associations etc.
With direction from the Director of Sales and Customer Support, s/he pursues both new accounts and seeks business expansion opportunities with current clients
The Provider Account Manager provides detailed products and service information to (potential) clients, gives presentations, provides sales quotations, and responds to requests for proposals
S/he manages the client relationship lifecycle, provides routine client check-ins and ensures that contracted products and services consistently meet client needs
By maintaining a high level of client satisfaction, the Account Manager promotes ongoing contract renewal, and subsequent partnerships/collaborations with existing partners and clients.
Essential Functions
Sales Delivery:
Drive delivery of revenue targets for the diagnostics business in assigned accounts
Meet or exceed the sales goal(s) for the assigned accounts and/or territory by consultatively selling Diagnostics services
Work with the Director of sales and Customer support and the leadership to develop, evaluate and refine overall product and sales strategies.
Continuously assess provider channel strategies to develop current partners further and recruit new ones as necessary
On an ongoing basis, tracks sales performance, review sales forecasting and sales trend in assigned accounts, in conjunction with the Sales Director and other relevant stakeholders
Educate providers on new diagnostics trends in line with the 54gene diagnostics strategy
Generate weekly reports on provider accounts performance that are shared with the Director of sales and customer support for consolidation
Ensure diligent and timely negotiation for renewing contract/compliance Implement sales strategies, tactics and initiatives to support the attainment of predetermined sales goals, including the prioritization of accounts, identification of decision-makers and utilization of sales tools.
Stay abreast of trends in the Diagnostics industry to generate market insights leading to the development of products that consolidate 54gene’s position as a leader in molecular diagnostics
Provide input on solutions, new services or areas of technology that will enhance the current sales strategy
Communicate with both internal and external stakeholders, to implement strategies and corrective measures that guarantee client’s satisfaction
Participate in external training and development opportunities appropriate business management methodologies and practices to foster a culture of client relationship and operational delivery / optimization excellence
Represent 54gene at industry meetings and various regional and national trade shows and membership meetings
Drive and maintain full compliance with Group policies and international laws relevant to channel management, in particular anti-corruption
Client Relationship Management:
Communicate with prospective clients to understand their needs, and explain 54gene Diagnostics value; build new client relationships based in trust and respect
Identify and pursue all outbound leads for Diagnostics in line with the organization’s strategy
Document activity and report progress on an ongoing basis within the 54 gene sales database(s)/CRM system(s)
Act as a client advocate with focus on improving the client experience
Provide continued client engagement on 54gene products and services
Facilitate and lead meetings between 54gene and customers to proactively co-develop operational, business, and/or project related solutions, and/or resolve conflict and manage business risk as needed
Manage and meet client expectations by collaborating with and communicating customer priorities and project resource requirements to 54gene teams
Ensure performance tracking and analytics to optimize service delivery are in place; ensure adequate progress is made toward meeting contractual goals/milestones
Communicate gap areas to management to address major issues impacting delivery of current and future business; escalate to leadership if appropriate for issue resolution
Document all activities and customer information in CRM system

Job Description
Quality data is the core of the work done at 54gene. Currently, 54gene is collaborating with more than 10 health institutions in Nigeria, collecting research data across multiple different disease areas
Ensuring the efficiency of the recruitment process, appropriateness of informed consent forms, quality of the phenotypic data being entered into our research portal and proper labeling of all collected samples is of utmost importance. In this regard, the service of a Research Site Quality Control (QC) Specialist is required.
Roles and Responsibilities
Become very familiar with the principles and processes guiding all aspects of the respective 54gene research study, including but not limited to: appropriately collecting informed consent, phenotypic data, and biospecimen, storing and packaging biospecimen/samples for delivery
Ensure all aspects of participant recruitment (as stated above) is carried out according to 54gene’s established SOPs, guidelines and protocol
Serve as final clearing house for all data collected at specific study sites
Review data from ongoing studies daily and ensure accuracy, completeness and consistency in data collection, and proper labelling of data collection forms and samples
Liaise with site PIs, Data Entry Officers (DEOs) and other site staff to address any process and data inconsistency concerns
Track data upload rates against participant recruitments to ensure consistency
Liaise with site investigators and other site staff to ensure samples prepared for shipment have the full complement of documentation needed for quality standards and biobanking.
