Description
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The position assesses student needs, goals, interests and prior academic experiences in order to guide students in the design and implementation of a successful academic plan. The position shall collaborate with faculty members to address the academic advising needs of individuals or group of students. The position shall report directly to the Director Academic Advising.
DETAILED LISTING OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists students in selecting course work appropriate to their skill levels and career and academic goals
Assists students with an educational plan showing academic requirements for them to meet their goals
Maintains contact with students during the term and provides academic advising assistance
Serves as a liaison with the Director of Advising and Retention as needed to assist students.
Provides information to students regarding financial assistance available to them
Assists in developing strategies which address student retention issues
Perform other duties as assigned or delegated by supervisor
Requirements for the position:
A Bachelors’ degree in a related field from a recognized tertiary institution with a minimum of three (3) years’ experience working with college students or young adults in an academic or career services counseling capacity.
Sound understanding of academic advising and student development theory, and success in working collaboratively with faculty, administrators, and students
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
