Job Overview
The FCDO-funded United Kingdom Nigeria Infrastructure Advisory Facility (UKNIAF) needs a Senior Generalist to report to the Team Lead and Project Director and support the effective delivery of the UK’s flagship infrastructure advisory project in sub-Saharan Africa.
Tetra Tech International Development is delivering the FCDO-funded United Kingdom Nigeria Infrastructure Advisory Facility (UKNIAF), a technical assistance facility which aims to improve the lives of some of Nigeria’s most impoverished people by enhancing the way infrastructure is designed and delivered in the country.
The UKNIAF programme is active across the Power sector and Infrastructure Finance. Working with the Federal Government of Nigeria, selected state governments, investors, and the wider international community, the programme aims to catalyse a transformational change in livelihoods across Nigeria by unblocking obstacles to growth. More details are available at our website:
UKNIAF needs a Senior Generalist to report to the Team Lead and Project Director and support the effective delivery of the UK’s flagship infrastructure advisory project in sub-Saharan Africa.
UKNIAF operates on a model with a lean leadership team, which is supplemented by a much larger team of consultants who deliver engagements with the Federal Government and selected states.
Our work is currently bottlenecked in the following areas: producing and editing high-quality written materials, developing these from those provided by the team, project management of cross-cutting activities and effective client communications.
Much of this work currently falls onto the Team Lead and two Sector Leads. The primary function of this role is to be able to take ownership of these projects as they arise and bring them to standard with little or no support over the medium term. The knock-on effect is releasing technical specialists for technical roles.
We are looking for a talented generalist – you do not need to have worked in the international development space before (although it helps), but you must have:
Main Duties
Outstanding ability as a writer and editor. You will be working with domain experts in infrastructure fields and have the job of taking technical content and packaging it so that it can be read and understood by a generalist audience. You must have the ability to express yourself clearly and concisely.
Confidence and intellectual curiosity. UKNIAF works in a very challenging political economy space and deals in many shades of grey. You must be able to learn quickly and be prepared to immerse yourself in the political environment in which we deliver.
The ability to offer an international perspective. Development as a whole is slow to adopt best practices from the corporate world. We are looking to expand our toolkit of management approaches and welcome experiences from outside the sector.
Qualifications
We aren’t prescriptive about your background, although we expect the successful candidate to have completed an undergraduate degree at a first-rate university (desirable).
Aptitude and Skills:
Personability and drive. UKNIAF’s core team is relatively small, and all of them have a strong ‘reason why’ – and we’re keen to maintain that part of our chemistry.
Adhere to company compliance and best practices.
